Astros reach settlement with parents of girl hit by ball fouled off by Albert Almora Jr.

HOUSTON — One of the lowlights of recent baseball history was the unfortunate situation that unfolded at Minute Maid Park on May 29, 2019, when, in a contest with the Houston Astros, then-Chicago Cubs center field Albert Almora Jr. hit a foul ball that struck a 2-year-old girl in the stands. The emotional incident, which resulted in the toddler being rushed to a nearby hospital and left Almora extremely shaken up, incited MLB to mandate protective netting being installed down the foul lines at all ballparks.

Sadly, the little girl, who is now 4 years old, suffered a brain injury and skull fracture when hit by the foul ball and endured seizures in the aftermath of the accident. The Associated Press reported on Tuesday that the Astros franchise agreed to a settlement with the girl's parents, with the terms of the settlement not being revealed. The report also included a positive update from the family's attorney, Richard Mithoff, who revealed that the girl has been gradually weaned off anti-seizure medication and has not experienced a seizure in 22 months.
