Adbert Alzolay exited his start due to injury on Friday night, with the right-hander appearing to favor his left leg on the mound before catcher Robinson Chirinos motioned for manager
David Ross and a trainer to come onto the field. Alzolay's ailing plant leg caused the 26-year-old starting pitcher to get pulled from the contest in the second inning. His ERA now stands at 5.16.
"You could see that pain through his eyes and how he felt when he came out from that game," Chirinos said about Alzolay during his postgame media session. Alzolay was taken out not long after giving up a go-ahead grand slam to Miami Marlins right fielder Bryan De La Cruz with no outs in the bottom of the second, which gave the Fish a 5-4 lead over the North Siders. He ended up being handed the loss, dropping his record to 4-13. Following the Cubs' 14-10 defeat at LoanDepot Park, it was revealed that Alzolay was suffering from left hamstring tightness and would be reevaluated on Saturday. There is no word yet on Alzolay's injury recovery timetable.
