CHICAGO — Tacking on an insurance run for the Chicago Cubs in the bottom of the eighth on Friday, catcher Willson Contreras cranked a 402-foot solo dinger to the opposite field, putting the Cubs up 8-5 over the St. Louis Cardinals. The homer marked the seventh straight run scored by the Cubs in the contest.

Going to the opposite field, the long ball to right field came on a 94.9-mph sinker thrown by reliever Jake Woodford. Contreras' 11th home run of the season served as the third homer of the day for the Cubs, as left fielder Joc Pederson and first baseman Anthony Rizzo also went yard at Wrigley Field. The round-tripper off the bat of Contreras increased the backstop's RBI total to 26.
