The Top Cubs moment of 2019: Rizzo's Return!

by - Staff Writer -

Over the past week, we have chronicled the best moments of the year for Cubs HQ.

Here are moments 10-8:

Here are moments 7-5:

Here are moments 4-2:

And here is the moment you’ve all been waiting for. The best moment of the Cubs 2019 season.

No. 1 Cubs moment of 2019:

Anthony Rizzo’s Return.

The Cubs offense looked the best it had all year in the series against the Pirates in September. The Cubs poured it on over the Pirates all weekend long, putting up 47 runs across three games.

However, the big blow came on Sunday, when Anthony Rizzo went down with a gruesome-looking ankle injury that many thought would end his season.

But shocking the world, Rizzo returned after just three days for the Cubs' most important series of the year.

Rizzo ditched the tricked-out scooter and went with a thick ankle wrap and played through severe pain to attempt to spark the Cubs.

Rizzo even homered in that game off of Jack Flaherty, something not many could say in the second half of the season.

Although we all know how the season and that series ended for the Cubs, it was certainly inspiring for the rest of the Cubs and the organization.

Rizzo proved why he is captain of the Cubs and what being a captain means. Rizzo played through extreme pain and sacrificed his body for the good of the team. Inspiring Craig Kimbrel and Brandon Kintzler to return from an injury perhaps a bit too early and Javier Baez to come in and pinch-run and pinch-hit despite his own injury.

Anthony Rizzo deserved to wear a second C on his jersey. The slugger hit .293 with 27 home runs and 94 RBIs and led the charge offensively for the Cubs.

But for Rizzo, his most memorable moment and the Cubs’ best moment of the year came when he shocked us all and “came back from the dead.”

He indicates just that when his walk-up song was the same as the WWE superstar, the Undertaker.
