Cubs reportedly 'extensively shopping' Willson Contreras

by - Senior Editor -

The Chicago Cubs are making some huge news this offseason with an overhaul of their roster.

Yu Darvish has been traded to the San Diego Padres reportedly and now word is out that the Northsiders are willing to trade fan-favorite Willson Contreras.

USA Today's Bob Nightengale is reporting that the two-time All-Star Contreras might be next.

"The Chicago Cubs, after trading Yu Darvish and non-tendering Kyle Schwarber, are now extensively shopping catcher Willson Contreras," he posted on social media. "Contreras is projected to earn at least $5 million and perhaps as much as $7.4 million in salary arbitration, per @mlbtraderumors."

This is another gut-punch for Cubs fans as Contreras is one of their favorite players with his solid all-around play and fiery personality.

Contreras hit .243 with 7 homers and 26 RBI last season and has two years left of cheap team control ($15 mil total).
