Cubs reportedly re-sign reliever

An MVP vote-getter is back with the Cubs.

The Chicago Cubs have re-signed Ryan Tepera to a major league deal on Friday according to multiple reports including MLB insider Jon Heyman.

Tepera was decent with a 3.92 ERA, three holds, and 1.403 WHIP in 21 appearances (20 2/3 innings) last season. Other notables included a 34.% strikeout rate and 13.5% walk rate.

For his six MLB seasons, he has a decent 3.66 ERA.

The 33-year-old was non-tendered by the ballclub in December.

The funny note about Tepera's 2020 season is that he got a 10th place vote for MVP accidentally by Rick Hummel out of St. Louis.

"I fully intended to vote for Trea Turner [10th]," Hummel said during the offseason. "In fact, I remember wrestling with putting two guys in from a last-place team,” added Hummel, who had Turner’s Nationals teammate Juan Soto eighth on his ballot."

No official word yet on Tepera's signing with the Cubs yet.
