Cubs trade talk: Kris Bryant for Starlin Castro is a joke

by - Senior Editor -

It's the offseason, so that means MLB analysts with their hot takes regarding different trade scenarios.

MLB Network Radio’s Mike Ferrin and Jim Duquette discussed some interesting trade talk involving Cubs third baseman Kris Bryant.

The duo talked about the unlikely return of Starlin Castro for Bryant.

“If you do Bryant for Starlin Castro, does that line up?” Ferrin said on the show. “I mean, you save a little bit of money, you end up with a guy that can play second or third base. Obviously, they know Castro’s makeup. He was a very popular player in that clubhouse. Like, does that sense? I mean, it’s not the same in terms of value, but like, is that the best you can kind of do? “It feels like it, right?”

It really doesn't to this CubsHQ writer, as this would be a complete salary dump for the 31-year-old Castro.

I would keep him and possibly see if he returns to form in 2021 and then possibly move him at the deadline or keep him for the stretch run.

Castro is a solid player, but I don't think he is necessary with Nico Hoerner and David Bote already in Chicago waiting in the wings for additional playing time.

In 2020, Castro hit .267 with two homers and four RBIs.
