Marlins reportedly talked to Cubs about Willson Contreras |
Another day and another trade rumor.
Chicago Cubs catcher Willson Contreras is one of the top backstops in the game with his unique blend of power, defense, and fiery personality. That means MLB teams would love to gauge the Cubs' interest in trading away Contreras, who has two years left of team control. Enter the Miami Marlins. "Miami clearly with Chicago talks peaking interest on Willson Contreras," MLB Network contributor Craig Mish posted on social media. "To get Contreras, Cubs would certainly like to go young, and Miami has those assets. Still, this is all very fluid, and the Cubs have big decisions to make across the board." Obviously, the Cubs should get a decent haul for the All-Star catcher in his prime. The Marlins currently have five players in the Top 100 minor leaguers, so they have a talented farm system. Contreras hit .243 with 7 homers and 26 RBI last season and has two years left of cheap team control ($15 mil total). I can understand the frustration with the lack of Marlins news, seems to me it’s most of the league IMO. If track record tells us anything about Miami, they are not opposed to making big trades. That’s something to keep in mind.
