CINCINNATI — In addition to setting a franchise record for the most home runs recorded in a four-game series, the Chicago Cubs (20-14) made major league history on Sunday by becoming the first team to have all three of its starting outfielders go yard multiple times in the same game. The Cubs racked up six home runs by three different players and romped the Cincinnati Reds (15-19) 10-1 at Great American Ball Park.
The nine-run victory gave the Cubs a series split in the four-game affair. Ian Happ, Jason Heyward and Kyle Schwarber each tabbed a pair of dingers in the rout. Schwarber powered out a grand slam in the top of the ninth that effectively put the Reds away. He also slugged a solo shot. Both of Heyward's bombs were of the solo variety, while Happ swatted a solo round-tripper and a two-run jack. The Cubs become the first team in MLB history to have all 3 starting outfielders homer twice in the same game!
