Cubs reportedly will work on extension with Javy Baez

El Mago might be getting paid soon.

The Chicago Cubs are reportedly going to sit down and work on a multi-year extension with All-Star shortstop Javier Baez during the Winter Meetings.

"Javier Baez’s reps and the Cubs are expected to sit down at the winter meetings to see if an extension is possible," MLB insider Jon Heyman posted. "Would be a whopper obvs. Cubs still need to figure out who from the core will be dealt."

Baez has two years left of team control before he is a free agent, so the Cubs want to lock him up long-term to build the team around him.

A contract could likely be in excess of $100 million for Baez to sign him to a five to six-year contract.

He batted .281 with 29 homers and 85 RBIs last season.

For his career, he is a .270 hitter with 110 homers and 354 RBIs.
