The first-place Chicago Cubs were ready to battle their rival St. Louis Cardinals on Friday night.
However, MLB canceled tonight's contest due to a new positive case among the Cardinals players. In total, the Redbirds have 14 positive cases with 8 of them being players. It was hopeful that they would be able to get in a doubleheader on Sunday but MLB Network insider Joel Sherman and others are reporting that the series is canceled. "MLB has not made it official but I hear the #Cubs #StlCards series this weekend has been postponed," Sherman posted on social media. The Cubs will now fly home tonight (off-day on Monday scheduled) and prepare to play Tuesday in Cleveland. One key aspect to this is that the player who tested positive, I am told, and I am reiterating here, was with the team in Milwaukee. That means he flew with teammates and worked out with them Wednesday and Thursday. This is not trending well for the #STLCards The #Cubs now will turn around and head back to Chicago for the weekend while the #STLCards will have to figure out how to play 55 games in 49 days.
