Cubs outfield prospect Owen Caissie facing injury concern

Chicago Cubs manager Craig Counsell announced that top outfield prospect Owen Caissie is currently dealing with left groin tightness.

Counsell also shared that Caissie underwent core surgery in late October, a procedure similar to what Dansby Swanson had.

The Cubs medical staff is assessing whether his current issue is linked to that surgery and trying to determine the best course of action.

“We’ve got to figure out if this is related, how this is related, or if it’s related, and what’s going on,” Counsell said.

The Cubs acquired Caissie in the trade that sent Yu Darvish to the San Diego Padres in December 2020.

In other injury updates on prospects, Matt Shaw is getting well after some left oblique soreness.

“Shaw is doing great,” Counsell said. “We’re hitting in the cage, so doing really well there, progressing on the swinging, on the throwing.”
