Former Chicago Cubs manager Lee Elia, known for his fiery demeanor and decades-long career in Major League Baseball, has passed away at the age of 87.

Elia managed the Cubs from 1982 through part of the 1983 season, compiling a record of 127-158. While his time at the helm was relatively short, Elia left a lasting impact on the organization and the players he coached.

Following the news of his passing, the Cubs released a heartfelt statement honoring his contributions:

"The Chicago Cubs organization joins the rest of the baseball world in mourning the recent passing of Lee Elia," the statement read. "Elia's long career within professional baseball including time as both a Cubs player and manager-a stint that began his over 30-year major league coaching career. His connection with our organization will forever be remembered with our organization and our thoughts are with his wife, Priscilla, and his entire family."

Though his time in Chicago was relatively brief, he remains one of the most memorable and talked-about figures in Cubs history—thanks in large part to one of the most infamous postgame rants in Major League Baseball history.

CubsHQ extends our deepest condolences to the Elia family and all who knew and loved him.
