Ian Happ injury update

Tony Crumpton Tony Crumpton - Senior Editor -

Chicago Cubs gold-glove left fielder Ian Happ is still not 100 percent with the left hamstring strain he suffered in spring training.

Happ hasn't played in a game in three days when he was the designated hitter. He is hitting .111 with one RBI in 18 at-bats this spring.

Cubs manager Craig Counsell told the media on Saturday that his injury has "plateaued," and he won't be in the lineup until Monday against the St. Louis Cardinals.

Counsell believes that Happ will be ready for Opening Day with the extra rest.

“Goal is to put it behind him & it’s not quite behind him," he said.

In other roster news, Counsell confirmed that Garrett Cooper is part of the Cubs Opening Day roster.

Cooper will need a 40-man spot since he was a non-roster invite to spring training.
