Nico Hoerner leaves game with injury

by - Senior Editor -

Chicago Cubs second baseman Nico Hoerner left Monday's game against the St. Louis Cardinals with an injury.

In the fifth inning, during a play in which Dansby Swanson hit an RBI double that knocked out Miles Mikolas, Hoerner slowed up and did not aggressively round third.

He pulled into third base in pain, and after a visit with manager David Ross and head athletic trainer Nick Frangella, he was removed from the game.

It is unclear what the injury is (possible hamstring) and how long Hoerner will be out, but his exit from the game is certainly a blow to the Cubs. Hoerner has been a consistent presence in the Cubs lineup this season.

Hoerner's replacement, Nick Madrigal, took over to pinch run for him.

As of now, there is no word on the severity of Hoerner's injury or how long he will be out.

We will let you know when we hear from Cubs officials.

Update: Cubs announced that Hoerner left the game with left hamstring tightness.
