Roster Moves: Cubs place Michael Soroka on IL, recall reliever

The Chicago Cubs have placed veteran pitcher Michael Soroka on the 15-day IL on Tuesday with a right shoulder strain. To take his roster spot, the team has called up reliever Nate Pearson to bolster the bullpen.

Pearson has a 12.66 ERA and 2.53 WHIP in nine games this season. However, he has been lights out at Iowa since his demotion from the Cubs earlier this season.

Soroka only lasted two innings in his Cubs debut after being traded for two prospects at the trade deadline.

“It’s never fun — it’s embarrassing. You come to this organization, and you hope to hit the ground running,” Soroka said to reporters. “Two innings later, we’re having to pull the plug.

“It’s concerning, but there is hope that it’s something that can be taken care of fairly quickly, and hopefully we’ll be back out there in some respect, at some point soon.”
