Roster Moves: Cubs recall Owen Caissie, place catcher Miguel Amaya on IL |
TORONTO, Ontario – The Chicago Cubs today recalled outfielder Owen Caissie from Triple-A Iowa. In a corresponding move, catcher Miguel Amaya has been placed on the 10-day injured list with a left ankle sprain. Caissie will wear uniform #19.
Caissie, 23, is batting .289 (100-for-346) with 26 doubles, two triples, 22 home runs, 52 RBI, a .389 OBP and a .566 slugging percentage in 93 games with Iowa this season. He leads current I-Cubs hitters in home runs, OPS (.955) and runs scored (69) and is second in slugging percentage. Since the start of July, the lefty is hitting .349 (37-for-106) with a .708 slugging percentage and a 1.134 OPS. His slugging percentage and OPS both rank second among all Triple-A batters in that span, while earning International League Player of the Week honors for the week of July 6. He will make his major league debut with his first appearance with the Cubs. The six-foot four-inch native of Burlington, Ontario, was named the Cubs’ No. 1 prospect and MLB’s No. 45 prospect by MLB.com ahead of the 2025 season and played in his first MLB Futures Game during the 2025 All-Star Week. Caissie was selected by the Padres in the second round (45th overall) of the 2020 draft and acquired by the Cubs on December 29, 2020, as part of a five-player package for right-handed pitcher Yu Darvish and catcher Victor Caratini. Amaya, 26, was reinstated from the 60-day injured list (left oblique strain) on Tuesday. He started at catcher last night and went 1-for-3 before being removed due to injury. The Cubs play the Toronto Blue Jays today at 2:07 p.m. CT at Rogers Centre in a game that can be seen on Marquee Sports Network and heard on 670 the Score and, in Spanish, on WRTO 1200 AM.
