Cubs Media Relations  ·

MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The Chicago Cubs today recalled right-handed pitcher Gavin Hollowell from Triple-A Iowa. In a corresponding move, right-handed pitcher Chris Flexen has been designated for assignment.

Hollowell, 27, has posted a 1-2 record with two saves, a 5.24 ERA (13 ER/22.1 IP) and 34 strikeouts in 20 relief appearances with the I-Cubs this season. He has allowed more than one run in an outing just twice and more than two runs just once in Triple-A during the campaign. His 13.70 strikeouts-per-9.0 innings lead current Iowa pitchers, and his 2.83 strikeouts-per-walks are second-most among active I-Cubs relievers. Hollowell has a 1.42 ERA (1 ER/6.1 IP) in five games across two stints with the Cubs this season.

Flexen, 31, went 5-1 with one save, a 3.09 ERA (15 ER/43.2 IP) and a 1.15 WHIP in 21 games, all but one out of the ‘pen, with the Cubs this season. He did not allow an earned run in his first 12 games to start the year.

The Cubs play the Milwaukee Brewers tonight at 6:40 p.m. CT at American Family Field in a game that can be seen on Marquee Sports Network and heard on 670 the Score and, in Spanish, on WRTO 1200 AM.
