CHICAGO, Ill. — Reminiscent of a dramatic scene in a baseball-themed movie, Chicago Cubs (28-18) infielder Javier Baez stepped up to the plate with the game tied and the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth as part of a pinch-hitting appearance that was totally unexpected. Swinging at the first pitch thrown to him, Baez lifted the Cubs over the Philadelphia Phillies (28-20) by a final score of 3-2, marking the Cubs' fifth walk-off win of the season.

After suffering a heel injury on Sunday, Baez missed Monday's contest and was expected to miss the entirety of Tuesday's matchup. Therefore, it came as quite a surprise when he dug in at the dish in the ninth inning at Wrigley field on Tuesday night. From there, Baez wasted no time in securing the win, as he tabbed an opposite-field RBI single on his first swing to score first baseman Anthony Rizzo and end the game in walk-off fashion.
