CHICAGO — An incidental stumble likely saved a first base umpire from getting trucked by a Chicago White Sox player. With burly White Sox designated hitter Edwin Encarnacion barreling down the baseline, the umpire fell to the ground with Encarnacion nearing, and Encarnacion was able to hop over him in the nick of time. The scene played out in the third inning of the Chicago Cubs' matchup with the White Sox at Wrigley Field on Saturday.

The incident came about because a bad throw by shortstop Javier Baez pulled first baseman Anthony Rizzo off the bag. Rizzo was able to swipe Encarnacion with his mitt before Encarnacion awkwardly stepped on first base. That caused the DH to veer in the direction of the umpire, making for a funny moment.
