LOS ANGELES – The Chicago Cubs today activated right-handed pitcher Marcus Stroman from the 15-day injured list and placed left-handed pitcher Justin Steele on the paternity leave list.

Stroman will start tonight’s 9:10 p.m. CT game against the Dodgers in Los Angeles.

Stroman, 31, was placed on the 15-day injured list June 10 (retroactive to June 7) with right shoulder inflammation. He made one rehab start with Triple-A Iowa, July 3 vs. Columbus (5 ER/2.2 IP). The righthander is 2-5 with a 5.32 ERA (28 ER/47.1 IP) in nine starts during his first season with the Cubs after he signed a three-year contract with the club this past offseason.

Stroman is 63-65 with a 3.71 ERA (443 ER/1,075.2 IP) and one save in 188 career major league appearances (182 starts). The Medford, N.Y., native became Duke University’s first-ever first-round selection when he was taken by Toronto, 22nd overall in the 2012 MLB First-Year Player Draft. In parts of eight seasons in the major leagues, Stroman has pitched for Toronto (2014-19), the Mets (2019, 2021) and the Cubs (2022).

Steele, who turns 27 on Monday, is 3-5 with a 4.13 ERA (35 ER/76.1 IP) in 16 starts for the Cubs this season, including a 2-0 mark with a 2.72 ERA (11 ER/36.1 IP) in his last six starts since June 5.
