CHICAGO – The Chicago Cubs today announced that the team and President of Baseball Operations Jed Hoyer have agreed to terms on a multi-year contract extension. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

“Jed and his baseball operations staff have built a healthy player development organization and put an exciting, playoff contending team on the field. We are looking forward to the rest of the season and to working with Jed for years to come,” said Chicago Cubs Executive Chairman Tom Ricketts.

Hoyer, 51, is in his 24th season in baseball operations in the major leagues and his 14th with the Cubs. He joined Chicago in November 2011 as Executive Vice President and General Manager and was named President of Baseball Operations in November 2020. He has been involved in a leadership role in every aspect of the Cubs’ Baseball Operations department, helping the organization revamp its amateur and professional scouting departments while creating and expanding the research and development analytics group.

“I’m so grateful for the Ricketts family’s trust and support for 14 years. The Cubs are a special organization with an amazing fan base. I’m excited to keep building on the momentum we have and to work with a terrific baseball operations staff to consistently deliver a championship-caliber team for this great city,” Hoyer said.

Prior to joining the Cubs, Hoyer served as general manager of the San Diego Padres for the 2010-11 seasons, and in 2010 guided the club to its fourth 90-win campaign in the franchise’s 42-year history. Hoyer began his major league career with the Boston Red Sox from 2002-09 and was actively involved in player development, major league scouting, quantitative analysis and advance scouting.

A native of Plymouth, N.H., Hoyer is a graduate of Wesleyan University, where he helped lead the Cardinals to the championship game of the NCAA Division III World Series in 1994 as a pitcher and shortstop.
