
Roster Moves: Cubs recall Matt Shaw, designate infielder for assignment |
MIAMI, Fla. – The Chicago Cubs today recalled infielder Matt Shaw from Triple-A Iowa. In a corresponding move, infielder Nicky Lopez has been designated for assignment.
Shaw, 23, is hitting .286 (26-for-91) with five doubles, one triple, six home runs, 14 RBI and a .970 OPS in 23 games with the I-Cubs since being optioned on April 15. He leads Iowa in runs scored (22) and is tied for first in stolen bases (5), second in home runs and tied for second in extra-base hits (12) since April 15. He made the Opening Day roster with Chicago, making his MLB debut March 18 vs. the Dodgers, and hit .172 (10-for-58) with one homer and a .294 OBP in 18 games with the Cubs. Lopez, 30, played in 14 games, five starts, with the Cubs and recorded one hit in 18 at-bats with four walks, two runs scored and one RBI. The Cubs play the Miami Marlins tonight at 5:40 p.m. CT at loanDepot Park in a game that can be seen on Marquee Sports Network and heard on 670 the Score and, in Spanish, on WRTO 1200 AM.
