Report: Jon Lester, Kyle Schwarber out with Nationals' COVID-19 issues

COVID-19 is still very much contagious in 2021.

The Washington Nationals have been hit this week with the virus as their series with the New York Mets has been postponed.

Unfortunately, there are several players, including former Cubs stars, that will be impacted, according to Jesse Dougherty of the Washington Post.

"The team has nine players in quarantine/isolation b/c of coronavirus protocols," he posted. "Four have tested positive. Five have been deemed close contacts and are quarantining due to potential exposure. Not saying that any of the above players are definitively in one group or the other."

Schwarber and Lester are players that are reportedly out of the lineup when play resumes for the ballclub.

"Kyle Schwarber, Josh Harrison, Jon Lester + Alex Avila are among the players the Nationals expect to be w/o if they start early this week, according to people w/ knowledge of the situation. Team hasn’t announced any names/who’s tested positive or quarantining as a close contact."

Normal protocol on positive COVID-19 tests is usually 10 days, so these players will likely be back next weekend at the earliest.

Our best wishes to everyone that tested positive that they get back 100 percent healthy as soon as possible.
