More blocking help for the Bears offense.

The Chicago Bears are finalizing a deal on signing veteran tight end Marcedes Lewis to a one-year deal worth $2 million according to multiple reports on Friday.

Lewis will be playing in his 18th NFL season, the most ever played by a tight end in NFL history.

He is an elite blocker that could do wonders for Justin Fields in pass protection.

According to PFF, Lewis has 5,968 total blocking snaps in his 17-year career.

In 2022, he blocked on 72.9% of his offensive snaps (451) and allowed 0 sacks, 0 QB hits, and just two QB pressures.

He has a 75.9 PFF run-blocking grade over the last three years, which ranks him fourth among all NFL tight ends.

The Bears are loaded with talent at the tight end position with Robert Tonyan, Cole Kmet and others.

He was a first-round draft pick by the Jacksonville Jaguars back in 2006.
