There were media murmurs suggesting that the Chicago Bears might consider selecting a quarterback with the first overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft.
With promising quarterback prospects like Bryce Young, C.J. Stroud, and Anthony Richardson available in the draft, some wondered if the Bears would be tempted to hit the reset button and trade Fields for a significant return.
However, as it turned out, the Bears never entertained the idea of replacing Fields this offseason.
Now, nearly a month after the NFL draft, Fields is shedding light on his mindset leading up to the player selection process. His comments reveal a quarterback who was never concerned about his job security.
When asked if he was worried about the Bears drafting his replacement, Fields responded with confidence and gratitude.
"No, not really," Fields said a recent press conference. "It's awesome for me getting that trust from the coaching staff. You guys don't see it, but we communicate here all the time, we trust each other fully. Just having them behind me, they know the kind of leader I am to my teammates. They know how great I want to be, the work I put in. It's just great to have them behind my back for sure."
In the end, the Bears opted to address their offensive line needs by selecting Tennessee offensive tackle Darnell Wright with the tenth overall pick.
The move signals the organization's commitment to providing better protection for Fields and nurturing his development as their franchise quarterback.
With a stronger supporting cast and a determined quarterback in Fields, the Bears are looking to put their dismal season behind them and embark on a new chapter filled with promise and potential.
