Shota Imanaga injury update

There’s some encouraging news for Cubs fans regarding standout pitcher Shota Imanaga.

Following the Cubs' 9–2 win on Monday night, manager Craig Counsell shared that Imanaga's MRI revealed a mild hamstring strain.

“The MRI showed he’s got a hamstring strain,” Counsell said. “He’s presenting to the doctor with a very mild hamstring strain. That makes us optimistic. I think it’s probable we’re gonna be past two weeks here because we’re gonna be cautious and make sure that he’s back to 100%. But all in all, pretty good news.”

Imanaga sustained the injury during Sunday’s game against the Brewers while running to first base.

Cubs President of Operations Jed Hoyer understands the importance of Imanaga to the Cubs rotation.

“I mean, no one’s going to be Shota,” Hoyer said during interviews on Monday. “We have to have guys step up. Our depth is getting challenged a little bit. I think we still have pretty good depth and options, and we’ll have to have those guys step up.”

Imanaga has a 3-2 record with a 2.82 ERA and a sparkling 1.10 WHIP this season.
