Cubs sign nine more selections from 2025 MLB Draft

CHICAGO – The Chicago Cubs today announced they have agreed to terms with nine more players from the 2025 First-Year Player Draft, including fourth round (121st overall) right-handed pitcher Kaleb Wing from Scotts Valley High School (Calif.) and sixth round (181st overall) outfielder Josiah Hartshorn from Orange Lutheran High School (Calif.). The Cubs have now agreed to terms with 19 of 20 overall selections from the draft. Terms of the deals were not disclosed.

In addition to Wing and Hartshorn, the Cubs have agreed to terms with right-handed pitchers Connor Spencer (12th round), Nate Williams (13th round), Kaemyn Franklin (14th round), Riely Hunsaker (16th round), Connor Knox (18th round) and Freddy Rodriguez (20th round), as well as catcher Logan Poteet (17th round).

Wing, 18, pitched in 10 games during his senior season at Scotts Valley High School in California, posting a 1.58 ERA (8 ER/45.2 IP) with 79 strikeouts. Wing’s father, Ryan, was selected by the Chicago White Sox in the second round of the 2001 draft. The six-foot two-inch Wing is ranked by Perfect Game as the No. 11 right-handed pitcher in California and was previously committed to Loyola Marymount University (Calif.).

Wing was recommended by area scout Gabe Zappin.

Hartshorn, 18, in 29 games during his senior season at Orange Lutheran High School slashed .364/.468/.636 with five home runs and 24 RBI. The Anaheim, Calif native was ranked by Perfect Game as the No. 2 outfield prospect in California and No. 4 in the nation. The switch-hitting outfielder was previously committed to Texas A&M University.

Hartshorn was recommended by area scout Evan Kuaffman.
