Tony Crumpton Tony Crumpton  ·  Senior Editor ·

The Chicago Cubs traded prospect Ivan Brethowr for Pirates reliever Taylor Rogers moments before the end of the trade deadline on Thursday.

No word yet on the return for the Pirates.

Rogers is a 34-year-old veteran lefty who will give the Cubs more bullpen depth down the stretch.

He has a 2.40 ERA and 1.46 WHIP in 40 relief appearances with the Reds this season. He has been hot of late as he hasn't allowed a run in his last 12 appearances.

During his 10-year MLB career, he has a 3.28 ERA in 549 appearances. He was an All-Star in 2021.

More to come on this breaking news story.
