Cubs trade for reliever, option pitcher

Tony Crumpton Tony Crumpton  ·  Senior Editor ·

The Chicago Cubs announced on Tuesday that they have traded for minor league relief pitcher Jesus Tinoco from the Royals for cash considerations.

Tinoco was with the Rangers this season but had an 8.10 ERA in 9 appearances and was designated for assignment.

He signed with the Royals on June 25.

The 29-year-old righty has a 3.86 ERA at Triple-A this season between the Royals and Rangers organizations.

Another bullpen depth signing for the Cubs that could work out decent.

In other roster news, the Cubs have optioned reliever Daniel Palencia back to Triple-A Iowa.

Look for Julian Merryweather or Caleb Kilian to take the open roster spot for the Cubs.
