The Professor might have one more session with the Northsiders in 2024.

The Cubs have a team option for the veteran righty. Cubs owner Tom Ricketts said on Sunday's broadcast that he envisions Kyle Hendricks to be back next season.

“One of the great stories of the summer was his return to be as effective of a starting pitcher as – not quite 2016 Kyle Hendricks, but still very effective," he said. "It’ll be [president of baseball operations Jed Hoyer’s] decision on what to do with Kyle’s contract, but, at this point, I would see him coming back.”

Hendricks would love to play another season at Wrigley Field.

“I love Chicago so much,” Hendricks said Sunday. “I really hope to be a part of this group specifically and going forward with them. Whatever is going to happen is going to be right, no matter what it is.”

In 2023, Hendricks was 6-8 with a 3.74 ERA, 93 strikeouts and 1.20 WHIP.
