In seven minor league seasons since making his professional debut in the Rangers system in 2009, Christian Villanueva owns a .264 batting average (678-for-2,564) with 171 doubles, nine triples, 82 home runs and 415 RBI in 698 games. Was one of two players acquired by the Cubs from Texas in the Ryan Dempster deal on July 31, 2012. Has recorded double-digit home runs in five-consecutive seasons. Named to the 2013 Southern League mid-season and post-season All-Star teams. Was a 2011 mid-season and post-season All-Star in the South Atlantic League after finishing the campaign with a .278 batting average (130-for-467) with Class A Hickory. In 2011, he was tabbed the best defensive third baseman in the South Atlantic League by Baseball America. Ranked as the 14th-best prospect in the Arizona Fall League by Baseball America following the 2011 season. Selected to the 2010 Arizona League Post-Season All-Star Team. Originally signed by Texas as a non-drafted free agent on August 17, 2008. Participated in the second-annual Cubs Rookie Development Program in January of 2014.
