Matt is in his third professional season after being selected by the Cubs in the first round (13th overall) of the 2023 draft...At the beginning of the 2025 season, was ranked by MLB Pipeline as the Cubs' No. 1 prospect and the No. 19 overall prospect in baseball...In 2024, was named the Southern League Most Valuable Player, a Baseball America Double-A All-Star and to the Southern League Post-Season All-Star team...Participated in the SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game in 2024...Was named an MiLB.com Organizational All-Star following the 2023 campaign...Played three seasons at the University of Maryland, batting .320 (222-for-693) with 47 doubles, two triples, 53 home runs, 166 RBI and a 1.036 OPS in 167 games...Received the Brooks Wallace Award in 2023, honoring the nation's top collegiate shortstop...Also in 2023, garnered Big Ten Player of the Year honors, while leading the Terps to the Big Ten title...Prior to his junior season, was named the Cape Cod League Most Valuable Player after hitting .360 with five home runs and 19 RBI, en route to the league championship with the Bourne Braves...Graduated from Worcester Academy in Massachusetts...Was rated as the No. 9 player in the state of Massachusetts by Perfect Game during his senior season.

Matt in 2023 completed his first professional season, batting a combined .357 (56-for-157) with nine doubles, four triples, eight home runs, 28 RBI, 15 stolen bases and a 1.018 OPS in 38 games between the Rookie Level ACL Cubs, High-A South Bend and Double-A Tennessee...From July 27-end of the season, led all Cubs minor leaguers with 52 hits and 15 stolen bases...Made his professional debut on July 27 vs. the ACL Rockies, going 1-for-3...Blasted his first career home run on July 28 vs. the ACL Diamondbacks Black...Was promoted to South Bend on July 31, where he batted .393 (33-for-84) with four doubles, three triples, four home runs and 13 RBI in 20 games...Recorded a 12-game hitting streak from Aug. 20-Sept. 5, batting .431 (22-for-51) during the run...Was promoted to Tennessee on Aug. 29, where he finished the season...Played in four playoff games with the Smokies, en route to the Southern League championship...Was named MiLB.com Organizational All-Star following the season.
