Cubs make four roster moves

Cubs Media Relations -

MIAMI, Fla. – The Chicago Cubs today activated outfielder Ian Happ from the 10-day injured list and recalled right-handed pitcher Ethan Roberts. In corresponding moves, right-handed pitcher Porter Hodge has been placed on the 15-day injured list with a left oblique strain (retro to May 18) and catcher/designated hitter Moises Ballesteros has been optioned to Triple-A Iowa.

Happ, 30, was hitting .269 (43-for-160) with nine doubles, three home runs and 19 RBI in 39 games this season prior to being placed on the injured list on May 10 with a left oblique strain. At the time of his placement, he ranked third on the Cubs in OBP (.364) and fourth in average and strikeout-to-walk rate (1.46). This stint on the injured list was Happ’s second as a Cub and first since May 2021.

Roberts, 27, is 1-0 with a 5.40 ERA (5 ER/8.1 IP) and a 1.20 WHIP in nine games with Chicago this year. He allowed just one run in his first eight outings in his first stint with the Cubs earlier this season, holding the opponent hitless in four of those games. In nine appearances with Triple-A Iowa in 2025, Roberts has a 1-1 record with one save, a 1.69 ERA (2 ER/10.2 IP), 18 strikeouts compared to just three walks, contributing to a 1.03 WHIP, and a .195 batting average against.

Hodge, 24, has posted a 5.12 ERA (11 ER/19.1 IP) with 19 strikeouts and a 2-1 record in 21 games this season. He has allowed more than one run in just two outings.

Ballesteros, 21, made his major league debut on May 13 against Miami at Wrigley Field and notched his first career hit on May 16 against the White Sox. He has played in five games, all as the designated hitter, since his call-up.

The Cubs play the Miami Marlins tonight at 5:40 p.m. CT at loanDepot Park in a game that can be seen on Marquee Sports Network and heard on 670 the Score and, in Spanish, on WRTO 1200 AM.
