Roster Moves: Cubs activate righty pitcher, option reliever

Cubs Media Relations -

CINCINNATI, Ohio – The Chicago Cubs today activated right-handed pitcher Ryan Brasier from the 15-day injured list. In a corresponding move, right-handed pitcher Ethan Roberts has been optioned to Triple-A Iowa.

Brasier, 37, was placed on the injured list March 25 with a left groin strain and, in six rehab outings with Iowa, has allowed two runs in 5.2 innings of work (3.18 ERA) with six strikeouts, six hits and one walk. Prior to his stint on the IL, he pitched 1.0 inning and allowed one run on two hits and one walk with a strikeout in his lone appearance with the Cubs on March 18 vs. the Dodgers in Tokyo. The six-foot righty was acquired from the Dodgers on February 4 for a player to be named later.

Roberts, 27, did not make an appearance with the Cubs since being recalled on Tuesday, May 20.

The Cubs play the Cincinnati Reds tonight at 5:40 p.m. CT at Great American Ball Park in a game that can be seen on Marquee Sports Network and heard on 670 the Score and, in Spanish, on WRTO 1200 AM.
