
Roster Moves: Cubs call up Ben Brown, option reliever |
CHICAGO – The Chicago Cubs today recalled right-handed pitcher Ben Brown from Triple-A Iowa. In a corresponding move, right-handed pitcher Ethan Roberts has been optioned to Triple-A Iowa.
Brown, 25, went 1-0 with a 1.00 ERA (1 ER/9.0 IP), five strikeouts, a 0.56 WHIP and a .129 opponent average in two games with the Iowa Cubs since being optioned on June 24. Among Triple-A starters with at least two appearances since June 24, he ranks fourth in WHIP, sixth in batting average against and 11th in ERA. Brown posted a 4-6 record with a 6.13 ERA (54 ER/79.1 IP) and 91 strikeouts in 16 games (14 starts) with the Cubs this season. His 91 strikeouts are the second-most among Cubs hurlers. Roberts, 28, was recalled on July 9 and made one appearance with the Cubs (0.2 IP, 1 R/ER, 2 H). The Cubs play the Kansas City Royals tonight at 7:05 p.m. CT at Wrigley Field in a game that can be seen on Marquee Sports Network and heard on 670 the Score and, in Spanish, on WRTO 1200 AM.
