
Roster Moves: Cubs recall Jordan Wicks, pitcher optioned to Iowa |
ANAHEIM, Calif. – The Chicago Cubs today recalled left-handed pitcher Jordan Wicks from Triple-A Iowa. In a corresponding move, right-handed pitcher Javier Assad has been optioned to Iowa.
Wicks, 25, is 3-4 with one save, a 3.47 ERA (23 ER/59.2 IP) and 64 strikeouts, compared to just 19 walks, in 16 games, including 13 starts, with the I-Cubs this season. His 2.87 walks per 9.0 innings and 3.37 strikeouts per walk both rank second among Iowa pitchers (min. 5 G). In his previous two stints with the Cubs, Wicks has gone 0-1 with a 9.72 ERA (9 ER/8.1 IP), eight strikeouts and just one walk in four relief appearances. Assad, 28, was recalled ahead of yesterday’s game and threw 6.0 innings, surrendering just one run on two hits and one walk with four strikeouts. The Cubs play the Los Angeles Angels tonight at 8:38 p.m. CT at Angel Stadium in a game that can be seen on Marquee Sports Network and heard on 670 the Score and, in Spanish, on WRTO 1200 AM.
