
Roster Moves: Cubs reinstate Daniel Palencia from IL, option pitcher |
CHICAGO – The Chicago Cubs today reinstated right-handed pitcher Daniel Palencia from the 15-day injured list. In a corresponding move, the club optioned left-handed pitcher Jordan Wicks to the Arizona complex.
Palencia, 25, landed on the injured list on Sept. 8 with a right shoulder strain. The righthander owns a 3.00 ERA (17 ER/51.0 IP) and has a team and career-high 22 saves in 25 opportunities this season. From May 21-Sept. 8, he owned the second-most saves in the National League (22). Palencia posted a 12-game (10.2 IP) streak of not allowing an earned run from June 26-Aug. 1. This season, he ranks in the 99th percentile in the majors in average fastball velocity (99.6 mph) and the 94th percentile in barrel percentage (4.5%). Wicks, 26, is 0-1 with a 7.94 ERA (10 ER/11.1 IP) in seven games in relief for Chicago this season. The Cubs play the New York Mets today at 7:05 p.m. CT at Wrigley Field in a game that can be seen on ESPN and heard on 670 the Score and, in Spanish, on WRTO 1200 AM.
