Cardinals pitcher taken to emergency room, scratched from Sunday start |
CHICAGO — The St. Louis Cardinals cannot seem to catch a break when it comes to the health of their players in the 2020 season. Even with the team's COVID-19 outbreak, which forced the Cardinals to postpone three weeks' worth of games in July and August, in the rearview mirror, the Redbirds are still facing medical issues.
On Friday, the team placed outfielder Dexter Fowler on the injured list because of a medication he is taking for a stomach ailment that could potentially make him more susceptible to contracting COVID-19. On Saturday, Cardinals starting pitcher Kwang-Hyun Kim, a 32-year-old MLB rookie from South Korea, was taken to the emergency room due to abdominal soreness. Dakota Hudson pushed back to Sunday. Today's Game 2 will be a bullpen day. Poof goes pitching plan for #stlcards https://t.co/7XkFPVSy1a Kim was slated to start for the Cardinals against the Cubs on Sunday but was scratched from that contest. Now, Dakota Hudson, who was penciled in as the starter of the second installment of Saturday's doubleheader, will start for St. Louis at Wrigley Field on Sunday. The Cardinals also activated reliever Andrew Miller off the injured list on Saturday. We have activated LHP Andrew Miller from the 10-day Injured List and placed LHP Kwang Hyun Kim on the 10-day IL, retroactive to September 2. Hopefully, Kim, who was diagnosed with an undisclosed kidney ailment, will make a full recovery. In the meantime, the Cardinals' 2020 season will become even more difficult, as a fixture of their starting rotation is likely to miss substantial time down the stretch.
