Cubs reportedly met with Japanese free agent

The Chicago Cubs are working through all the different possibilities at the Winter Meetings to improve their ballclub in 2020 and beyond.

On Wednesday, the Cubs along with two other teams reportedly met with Japanese free-agent outfielder Shogo Akiyama.

The 31-year old veteran hit .303 with a .392 on-base percentage and 20 homers in 143 games with the Seibu Lions which is part of the Nippon Professional League.

Akiyama would move into centerfield for the Cubs if signed and Jason Heyward would be able to move back to his natural position of right field where he is most comfortable with defensively.

It should interesting to see if the meeting proves to be fruitful for the Cubs.
