CHICAGO — Veteran St. Louis Cardinals slugger Matt Carpenter should have known better than to test the right arm of Kyle Schwarber, and he paid the price for doing so. Carpenter was gunned down by the Chicago Cubs left fielder while attempting to stretch a single into a double on Wednesday.

The great throw helped bail out Cubs pitcher Adbert Alzolay in the top of the fourth at Wrigley Field. Carpenter's deep drive hit off the top the wall and nearly left the yard for a home run, but Schwarber was quick to fire a throw to the infield after fielding the ball. Second baseman Jason Kipnis applied the tag as Carpenter slid in, earning Schwarber an assist.
