Bears reportedly releasing two standouts

There is some interesting news this afternoon.

The Chicago Bears are releasing wide receiver Taylor Gabriel and cornerback Prince Amukamara according to multiple reports including ESPN's Adam Schefter.

This move will save the team around $13.5 million against their cap next season as the team tries to re-configure to make a playoff push in 2020. Adding the $13.5 million puts the Bears at around $26-$27 million available with regards to salary cap room.

Gabriel and Amukamara will now be free agents and will more than likely draw interest from several teams this offseason. Releasing them this early gives teams ample time to think about signing them.

Amukamara had three interceptions in 44 games over three seasons with the Bears.

Gabriel registered 96 catches for six touchdowns in two seasons in Chicago.

Both players had injuries that slowed them down in 2019, and the Bears felt that money was best spent elsewhere.
