CHICAGO – The Chicago Cubs today placed catcher Miguel Montero on the 15-day disabled list (retroactive to April 25) with lower back tightness and selected the contract of catcher Tim Federowicz from Triple-A Iowa. Chicago’s 40-man roster now stands at 40 players.

Federowicz, who will wear uniform number 15, will be available for the Cubs this afternoon as they complete their series against the Milwaukee Brewers at Wrigley Field.

The 28-year-old Federowicz is batting .303 (10-for-33) with four doubles, one home run, six RBI, a .415 on-base percentage and a .515 slugging percentage – good for a .930 OPS – in 11 games with Iowa this season. He signed a minor league contract with the Cubs last offseason after spending parts of the 2011-14 seasons with the Los Angeles Dodgers, batting .194 (48-for-247) with 11 doubles, five homers and 22 RBI in 89 major league games.

The right-handed hitting Federowicz played in a career-high 56 games for the Dodgers in 2013, batting .231 (37-for-160) with eight doubles, four homers and 16 RBI. He saw action in 23 games for the Dodgers in 2014.

Montero, 32, is batting .208 (10-for-48) with three doubles, one home run and six RBI in 13 games for the Cubs this season.
