A three-time All-Star and two-time World Champion, Ben was named 2016 World Series MVP ... is in his second season with the Cubs after he signed a four-year deal in December of 2015 ... has played in all or parts of 11 seasons with Tampa Bay (2006-14), Oakland (2015), Kansas City (2015) and Chicago, appearing at every position save for pitcher and catcher ... Is a career .266 hitter (1,287-for-4,840) with a .358 on-base percentage and .433 slugging percentage, good for a .791 OPS ... has averaged 36 doubles, five triples, 18 homers, 78 RBI, 85 walks and 89 runs per 162 games in his major league career ... Since the start of his first full big league season in 2009, ranks third in the majors with 662 walks and is tied for fifth with 278 doubles ... The switch-hitter has reached double digits in home runs in each of the last nine years and surpassed 30 doubles and a .350 on-base percentage in each of the last six campaigns starting in 2011 ... Has logged significant playing time at second base (735 games), right field (360 games), shortstop (230 games) and left field (138 games) in addition to 34 games in center field, 18 games at first base and eight games at third base ... Earned All-Star honors with Tampa Bay in 2009 (his first full big league campaign) and again in 2013 ... voted the N.L. All-Star squad's starting second baseman in 2016 ... Was the Rays recipient of the MLBPAA Heart and Hustle Award in 2011 and 2012 ... Played for the United States in the World Baseball Classic in 2013 ... Is a native of Eureka, Ill., located approximately 140 miles southwest of Chicago ... originally attended Olivet Nazarene University in Bourbonnais, Ill. and was drafted by the Houston Astros in the sixth round of the 2004 Draft out of Dallas Baptist University.
