Cody Bellinger may miss Dodgers' series with birth of child |
Chicago Cubs outfielder Cody Bellinger will likely be missing some games in the not-so-distant future.
He is expected to take paternity leave soon as he and his girlfriend are anticipating the birth of their child. "On the flip side, this weekend will be a homecoming for Cody Bellinger if he plays (his girlfriend is due any day with the couple’s second child)," Marquee Sports Network's Tony Andracki wrote. "He was drafted by the Dodgers in 2013 and spent his entire career in the organization before they non-tendered him in the offseason and he signed on with the Cubs." While the Cubs will miss Bellinger's contributions on the field, his paternity leave is a crucial reminder of the importance of family and how the MLB accommodates players in these life events. "I’ve got to go home, go to Arizona, maybe have a baby, so that’s what I’m focused on right now," Bellinger told the media. In 2023, Bellinger is hitting .238 with two homers and nine RBIs. With Bellinger's eventual leave, the Cubs' outfield puzzle may be more complicated, but the team has enough firepower to be fine. Seiya Suzuki, who is set to return soon, could provide a much-needed boost to the Cubs' lineup and offense during Bellinger's absence.
