Javy Baez on possible extension with Cubs

Most Chicago Cubs want 'El Mago' to stay with the ballclub for several more years.

Cubs shortstop Javy Baez spoke to the media Friday afternoon and was asked about how things were progressing with possible talks with the ballclub on a contract extension.

"Obviously, I want to stay here," Baez said. "The fans, the city -- everybody knows how it runs when it comes to sports. We'll see what happens this spring training. I'm focused on the team and getting the best out of me."

Baez went on to say that they have talked about an extension for a while.

"We have talked every spring for the last three years," he said.

Baez thinks eventually they are going to have a hard deadline on these extension talks.

"I don't like to play with that pressure, which I'm always saying that I don't play with pressure, but it's always there. I always try to keep it away, but we're probably going to have a deadline. We'll see where we're at in the conversation, but obviously, I want to stay here, he said. "I don't want to play for another team."
