Report: Cubs "most aggressive team" in pursuit of Shohei Ohtani

by - Senior Editor -

The offseason is here, and let the rumors fly.

The biggest name in free agency is superstar Shohei Ohtani, who will command a massive contract with a team that can sign him.

According to USA Today's Bob Nightengale, the Cubs might be the 'most aggressive' in trying to sign Ohtani to a long-term deal.

“The Dodgers remain the heavy favorites," Nightengale wrote. "The Chicago Cubs and Rangers are serious contenders, with several GMs saying that the Cubs may be the most aggressive team for his services. And it would be foolish to count out the Boston Red Sox, New York Mets, or even San Francisco Giants.”

Ohtani hit .304 with 44 homers and 95 RBIs with a 1.066 OPS (1st in majors) in 135 games this past season.

This is exciting news for Cubs fans as the organization went out and grabbed arguably the best manager in baseball and now is reportedly in the mix for the holy grail of players at the major league level.
