Roster Move: Cubs trade infielder Esteban Quiroz for cash considerations

by - Senior Editor -

Northsiders are getting their roster ready for the 2023 season.

On Thursday, the Chicago Cubs traded infielder Esteban Quiroz to the Philadelphia Phillies for cash considerations.

He will be assigned to their minor league camp.

In 88 career minor league games, Quiroz has hit .275 with a .861 OPS, showing an ability to get on base and hit for power. He appeared in 14 games with the Cubs last season.

Quiroz made his major league debut with the Padres in 2020 and played in 21 games, hitting .188 with one home run and four RBIs. He was then traded to the Tampa Bay Rays in December 2020.

Quiroz began his professional career in 2012, playing in the Mexican League for the Algodoneros de Guasave. In 2017, he signed with the Boston Red Sox and played in their minor league system before being traded to the San Diego Padres in 2018.

He is a versatile player who can play second, third, and outfield.

Quiroz was not on the Cubs' 40-man roster, so there were no changes in that regard.
