Cubs Roster Moves: Seiya Suzuki activated from IL, outfielder optioned

MILWAUKEE – The Chicago Cubs today activated outfielder Seiya Suzuki from the 10-day injured list and optioned outfielder Narciso Crook to Triple-A Iowa.

Suzuki, 27, has hit .245 (34-for-139) with 12 doubles, one triple, four homers, 21 RBI, a .344 OBP and a .775 OPS in 41 games for the Cubs in his first major league season. The N.L. Rookie of the Month for April, he was placed on the 10-day injured list May 30 with a left ring finger sprain. In three injury rehabilitation games with Iowa from June 30-July 2, he went 4-for-9 (.444) with two doubles, a homer and three RBI.

Signed by the Cubs to a five-year contract in March 2022, Suzuki played the past nine seasons with the Hiroshima Carp of the Japan Central League. All told, he batted .315 (937-for-2,976) with 182 doubles, 16 triples, 182 home runs and 562 RBI in 902 games. The right-handed hitting outfielder is a five-time Nippon Professional Baseball All-Star, a five-time Central League Gold Glove Award winner and a six-time Best-Nine Award recipient.

Crook, 26, made his major league debut, June 30 vs. Cincinnati, recording his first hit and RBI that night. He has appeared in four games for the Cubs, going 2-for-8 (.250) with a double and two RBI. In 47 contests with Iowa this season Crook is batting .268 (42-for-157) with seven doubles, two triples, nine home runs and 27 RBI.
