Bears running back Khalil Herbert placed on injured reserve

Tough news for the Bears offense that has been rolling along of late.

Chicago Bears running back Khalil Herbert has been placed on injured reserve on Tuesday. He suffered a hip injury while returning a kickoff in the Bears' 31-30 loss to the Lions on Sunday.

He will be out at least four games since landing on the IL list.

For the season, the 24-year-old was having an impressive season with 108 carries with 643 yards (6 ypc, which ties for 1st of RBs in NFL), and four touchdowns. He also had 62 receiving yards and a score this year.

He was on pace for over 1000 yards on the season as possibly the feature back down the line for the Bears.

Look for rookie Trestan Ebener to get a few carries as the new backup running back, and possibly the team will activate receiver Velus Jones. Jr. so they can get a boost out of the offense after the loss of Herbert.

It appears that Herbert will be back around the final trio of games of the season with the Bills (Christmas eve), Lions, and Vikings.

Hopefully, when he returns, these games matter in the playoff race regarding the Bears.
